Falcons netters nipped at Granite

South Whidbey’s girls tennis team put up a good struggle at Granite Falls Thursday but fell 4-3 to the Tigers.

In singles play, South Whidbey’s Hayley Newman defeated Emma Wysocki 6-1, 6-3; Falcon Carlie Newman dominated Pamela Cantillo 6-2, 6-0; Courtney Maxfield of Granite Falls beat Falcon Tessa Chiarizio 6-4, 6-1; and Tiger Katrina Layton beat Falcon Jolene Villines 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.

In doubles action, Breanna White and Becky Gilbertson of the host team defeated the Falcon duo of Claire Hofius and Kalie Stayskal 6-4, 6-1; Amelia Weeks and Tess Radisch of South Whidbey beat Sara Rood and Bailey Ainley 6-2, 6-3; and Cassie Prouty and Rachel Mow of Granite Falls beat Colleen Groce and Lucy Rock 6-0, 6-7 (5-7) 6-2.
