Three Falcon tennis seniors win final home matches

Bellingham is still the 2A team to beat in District 1. Fortunately for South Whidbey, the Falcons are 1A and won’t have to face any of the Red Raiders at the tri-district tournament.

The Red Raiders spoiled the Falcons’ senior night Friday in the regular season finale. A few Falcons escaped with victories, but the Red Raiders won the match 5-2.

South Whidbey was anchored by top singles player Guy Sparkman. The Falcon senior defeated Shane Miller 6-4, 6-4. In the second doubles match, Falcon seniors Kyle Simchuk and Mitchell Hughes partnered for the first time this season to beat Red Raiders Connor Thomson and Sam Ferguson, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).

At second singles, Bellingham’s Charlie Carmichael defeated Falcon senior Taylor Simmons, 6-0, 6-3. Brad Dale dropped Falcon sophomore Jack Hood in the third singles match, 6-2, 6-0.

Bellingham’s top doubles team of Auden Schilder and EJ Troutman beat sophomores Charley Stelling and Jonathon Peterson in the first doubles match, 6-2, 6-2. At third doubles, Falcon senior Cameron Baldwin and sophomore Austin Drake lost 1-6, 2-6 to Logan Schilder and Nick Nolan.

Forecast rain may move the district tournament to Thursday.
