South Whidbey girls hoops’ last shot rolls out

Scoring a game-high 17 points wasn’t enough for South Whidbey senior Hayley Newman, who missed the last-second, game-winning shot against Penrith on Monday night.

Against the visiting Australian team, South Whidbey held a 23-17 lead at halftime. The Falcons struggled with Penrith’s 6-foot-6 Kelli Sims, who scored a team-high 13 points. Penrith took the lead in the third quarter, scoring 15 points and holding South Whidbey to only four.
