Three-pointers trip up South Whidbey girls basketball

February 12, 2013 · Updated 2:31 PM

A slow start by South Whidbey and a fast opening by Blaine spelled doom for the Falcon girls basketball team Friday in a 48-32 loss.

Three-point shooting lifted the Borderites over the Falcons in the 1A elimination game. Breanna Chau connected on four three-pointers and scored a game-high 15 points.

The Falcons mustered only 10 points in the first half. That run allowed the Borderites to gain a 17-point lead by halftime.

South Whidbey’s senior leaders tried to rally in the third quarter. The Falcons poured in 13 points in the eight-minute stretch, but Blaine survived on South Whidbey’s turnovers.

Falcon senior Ellie Greene scored a game-high 12 points, and senior Annalies Schuster added 10.

The loss dropped the Falcons to 12-12 overall.
