South Whidbey Sports Briefs — American Legion baseball falls to Anacortes

Falcons fall in Anacortes

The American Legion Post 141 Falcons lost 8-3 to Anacortes in their second outing on May 29.

“We just didn’t play up to our potential,” said Falcon manager Brad Jaeger. “This week I’m planning on simplifying our signals and that should help.”

TJ Fallon, Luke Hodson and Jon Adams took the mound but couldn’t halt the hot bats from Anacortes. On offense, Lucas Yale and Dave Woodbury combined for the three runs scored for Post 141. Nick Tenuta grabbed two more stolen bases on a walk.

At 6 p.m., June 10, the team welcomes Lynden to Falcon Field.

Play a round of golf with Falcon teams

The coaches and players of the South Whidbey High School boys and girls golf teams are holding a two-day clinic at Island Greens for middle school students.

Falcon coach Steve Jones and fellow coach Tom Sage, along with the Falcon golf team members, will give instruction on the finer points of the game.

The first day covers the short- and long-game basics: putting, chipping, pitching, grip, alignment, stance and posture.

The second day will be playing nine holes of golf along with the coaches and Falcons players to work on strategy.

The clinic begins at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 11 at Island Greens on French Road in Clinton. The fee is $10 which covers range balls, nine holes of golf and instruction.

For details, call Jones at 221-4300, ext. 5351.
