Falcon tennis sweeps Granite

South Whidbey’s girls tennis team keeps looking for a challenger. And it will be a little while longer after a 7-0 sweep of the Granite Falls Tigers on March 25.

On the road Monday, the Falcons cruised against the Tigers, never losing a set.

Singles sisters Hayley Newman and Carlie Newman were nearly flawless in matching 6-1, 6-0 victories. Hayley, a senior, defeated Rachel Mow; Carlie, a sophomore, defeated Brittany Young.

Third singles Sophie Nilsen defeated Laura Gilbertsen, 6-2, 6-3. Colleen Groce won the fourth singles match, 6-0, 6-2.

Dynamic duo Tess Radisch and Amelia Weeks, both juniors, beat Granite Falls’ top doubles team of Sierra Murdoch and Jolene Villines, 6-3, 6-0.

Hannah Calderwood and Isla Dubendorf dropped Tigers Hailey Arndt and Katelyn Gresli, 7-5, 6-4.

The Falcons’ third doubles team of Breanna Gauger and Amanda Lee beat Granite Falls’ squad, Annie Hart and Cassie Hart, 7-5, 6-4.

South Whidbey is perfect this season at 4-0 in team wins.

The Falcons face their Whidbey Island rivals, the Coupeville Wolves, Wednesday, then host Friday Harbor on Friday.
