Falcon fastpitch has perfect season finish

The bulk of the fastpitch softball season ended without so much as a challenge last week.

Finishing up a season in which they went unbeaten in North Cascade Conference play, the Falcon girls battered Lakewood and Lynden Christian by a combined margin of 24-0 in 10 short innings of play Wednesday and Friday.

Rotating two and three pitchers into each of the games to get some extra practice time before Saturday's district tournament, the Falcons never gave the Lyncs or the Cougars a good look at the ball. Against Christie Robinson, Lucy Dauman and Ashley Lopez, the Lyncs were hitless in the Falcon win Friday. South Whidbey managed to end the game early, piling up 10 runs. Mary Murphy led the Falcon offense, going 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI.

Against Lakewood, the Falcons were intimidating. Though the Cougars managed three hits against Falcon pitching, they bobbled their way around in the field, chalking up 10 errors. The Falcons took advantage as Jenny Murphy pounded out a triple and senior Keasha Campbell went 3-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored. Julie Robinson added to the hit parade, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

The girls will get more of the same in the first round of the district tournament in Sedro-Woolley. They will play the winner of a Meridian-Lynden Christian game to start off the Saturday tournament. Play begins at noon.
