Though the results sheets were stained with grease from curly fries, the arm wrestling competition at the Island County Fair did produce some tough champions.

With veteran arm wrestling referee Terry Greene of Nichols Brothers in charge, several hundred dollars in prizes were awarded to the successful participants.

Owing to those grease stains, the results were somewhat incomplete, according to event emcee Jim Freeman. In the women's divisions, Megan of Whidbey Coffee successfully defended her 2001 crown as she blasted Amy of Issaquah in the finals. Ruth took first place in the lightweight division as she edged Ana.

In the men's up-to-150-pounds division, Jessie Sitton was the winner. Brandon was the 151-199-pound winner, and Rivera Daniel took the 199-and-up division.

Freeman said the record keeping at next year's competition will be more complete and stain free.

"Our apologies to those without surnames," he said.
