It was sunny and the track was hot.

Two of four Langley Middle School track teams that took team championships in their first home meet of the season Wednesday put a lot of that heat down, as the eighth-grade boys and seventh-grade girls beat teams from North Lake and North middle schools.

With 110 athletes out for track in total this season, LMS track coach Jack Terhar said the result at the meet was encouraging, especially since the greater share of those athletes are seventh-graders trying track and field for the first time.

"We have a very young team," he said.
