Basketball tournament benefits Pope family

A five-on-five basketball tournament to assist the family of former Falcon basketball coach Henry Pope is set for Sunday, Sept. 15.

Pope died in the early morning Thursday, July 25 from complications of an enlarged heart and high blood pressure. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Pope, and children Samantha, Taylor and Lewis.

The tournament costs $100 for a team of six players. Entries must be registered by Sept. 13; email The doors at the South Whidbey High School gym open at 10 a.m. and tip-off is set for 11 a.m.

Admission to the tournament costs $3 for a single entry and $10 for a family. There will also be an auction, a bake sale and concessions.
