The South Whidbey volleyball team overcame Granite Falls in the fifth game Thursday, 25-21, 25-17, 23-25, 20-25 and 15-12.

“We put up two strong wins in the beginning, then handed the Tigers the second two games,” said Falcon coach Mandy Jones. “Granite was playing very well and played like they wanted to win, and we just simply were not. Going into the fifth game it was a matter of who wanted it more, and my girls obviously did.

“If we want to keep our standings in the league, we need to step up the ‘want to win’ factor and come out strong and stay that way against Coupeville and Lakewood,” Jones added.

“Earlier this week we set some very realistic goals as a team and as individuals in order to finish the season strong. The team is working really hard at practice to achieve their goals.”

For the Falcons, Allison Wood had

22 kills and 12 digs, Lindsey Newman had 15 kills, Katie Holt had nine kills, Melanie Murphy had 13 digs and Kelsey Dorpat had 43 assists.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, the girls welcome Archbishop Murphy to Erickson Gym.
