The Falcon boys basketball team beat Cascade Conference opponent Sultan 64-61 Tuesday.

South Whidbey is 1-0 in the league, 6-1 overall.

"It was a great win for us," said Falcon coach Scott Collins.

"We had to fight through some adversity, trailed most of the game by four to six points, then we had a three-point play by Riley Newman with four minutes left and down by two points," he said. "Adrian Cortes led a charge on the next possession and a Scott Stallman basket gave us the lead."

South Whidbey made 22-of-31 free throws and shot the ball 47 percent from the field to the Turks' 40 percent.

Newman led scoring with 21 points, followed by Cortes and Stallman with 12 and Chris Carey with 11.

Friday, Jan. 16, the team travels to King's.
