The South Whidbey girls basketball team lost 74-40 on Tuesday against the Archbishop Murphy Wildcats.

The Falcon girls were outscored in all four quarters and were down 37-23 at halftime.

“There was nothing on the line in terms of playoffs,” said Falcon coach Henry Pope. “But they played hard and were OK until the Wildcats put the pedal down midway through the third quarter. The girls played for pride and I’m proud of them.”

Newman led with 22 points, Chantal LaChaussee and Reilly O’Sullivan each had six and Alannah Alber made three.

After 19 games, Newman leads the state with 536 total points for a per-game average of 28.2.

During halftime Friday against Lakewood, Falcon seniors Lindsey Newman and Samantha Pope were scheduled to be honored for their years on the team.

The Falcons were 6-7 in the conference going into Friday night’s game, and 8-10 overall.
