South Whidbey slams Mount Vernon in tennis

The South Whidbey girls tennis team beat Mount Vernon 6-1 on Monday. The Falcons now are 10-2 in the Northwest League.

In singles, Falcon Lindsey Newman won 6-0, 6-1; Natalie Wheeler won-6-2, 6-3; Maya Hough won 6-0, 6-4 and Andrea Berg lost 1-6, 3-6.

In doubles action, Victoria Comfort and Nicole Zalewski won 6-3, 6-2; Shannon Craig and Julia Iversen won 6-1, 6-2 and Jenn Gemkow and Katie Holt won 6-3, 6-2.

“Conditions were very windy, which created more cautious matches for both teams as they tried to adjust to the wind,” said Falcon coach Tom Kramer. “We played solid tennis as a team.”

At 2:45 p.m. today, the girls welcome Blaine to the high school courts.
