Five South Whidbey wrestlers placed at the Lynden Wrestling Invitational tournament on Saturday.

Falcon Jeff Kunellis (112-pound weight class) and Ben Morgen (135) placed third in the 14-team event, and Evan Thompson (130), Jake Leonard (160) and Chris Monell (171) each took fifth.

The team placed 11th overall with 81 points, just behind Anacortes but ahead of Newport, all big 4A schools. Lynden, Sedro-Wolley and Bellingham took the top three spots.

“The guy I lost to from Sedro-Woolley (Boyce Johnson) was the eventual winner in my weight class,” Thompson said. “A tough match, and he got the better of me. This time.”

On Thursday, Jan. 21, the team travels to Granite Falls for a league dual meet.
