The South Whidbey girls tennis team lost 4-3 against Sehome, arguably the toughest team in the Northwest League, on Wednesday.

Still, for the season, the Falcons are 11-4 overall.

“We flirted with victory,” said Falcon coach Tom Kramer.

“We had our chances in several matches to win but simply squandered them,” the coach added.

In singles action, South Whidbey’s Jessica Carey won 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, Lena Nichols lost 1-6, 2-6, Reilly O’Sullivan lost 4-6, 4-6 and Alexa Brewster lost 2-6, 4-6.

The doubles duos had a better day for the Falcons. Shannon Craig and Julia Iversen won 6-1, 6-3 to remain undefeated for the year. Katie Holt and Hayley Newman won 6-1, 6-3 and Teagen Nielsen and Bayley Heggenes lost 5-7, 6-7.
