Big 6th inning not enough, South Whidbey knocked out of district tournament / 8-10 baseball

A furious last-inning rally came up just short, and the South Whidbey Little League 8-10 baseball all-star team lost 15-13 to Sedro-Woolley Monday, June 24, and was eliminated from the district tournament at Community Park.

South Whidbey entered the sixth inning down 15-7 and then rallied for six runs. The game ended with the tying run at the plate.

Sedro-Woolley was helped by “stellar defense,” according to SWLL player agent Olivia Batchelor.

South Whidbey, coached by Jeff Fisher, also had its own defensive highlight, a double play in the first inning.

“It was truly amazing to see every kid on our team add to the good things in the game,” Batchelor said. “Watching the growth of this team in the last two weeks has been so fantastic to see.

“In the end there was sadness for a few minutes, but after the team talk with the coaches, the boys left the team huddle with huge smiles and a love for baseball that will never end. That’s what really matters.”
