South Whidbey boys soccer was defeated by Seattle Academy 5-0 in the loser-out round of the 1A Bi-District tournament May 10. The Falcons, who qualified for state the past two seasons, finished 9-8-3 overall and 6-5-3 in the Cascade Conference.

South Whidbey had a steep road to climb to advance to the class 1A state championships. They faced three teams in the 1A District 1 tournament, where they defeated Lynden Christian and Meridian but lost to King’s. Had the Falcons won, they would have played an additional loser-out match against Mount Baker.

Seattle Academy went on to place fourth and advanced to state.

Falcon head coach Emerson Robbins said in an email that Seattle Academy was one of the two best teams the Falcons faced all season. The other was Archbishop Murphy, he said.

“In any case, we felt satisfied in winning two playoff games and knowing we all did the best we could,” Robbins said .
