Falcons take 5th at invitational / Volleyball

The South Whidbey High School volleyball team finished in the middle of the pack at its annual invitational tournament Saturday, Sept. 28.

The Falcons placed fifth in the nine-team meet. Sumner captured the top spot, followed by Coupeville, North Mason, Klahowya, South Whidbey, Northwest, Mount Vernon Christian, Bremerton and Friday Harbor.

South Whidbey defeated Mount Vernon Christian 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-17) and fell to North Mason 1-2 (20-25, 26-24, 6-10) in pool play.

Going against the other two teams that placed second in their pool, the Falcons beat Northwest 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-13) and lost to Klahowya 1-2 (18-25, 12-25, 25-14).

The Falcons (1-0, 2-2) face the North Sound Conference’s two unbeaten teams this week. First they travel to Coupeville (1-0, 4-0) for a 7 p.m. match Tuesday, Oct. 1, and then they host King’s (1-0, 4-0) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3.
