Falcons win invitational tournament / Volleyball

Once the competition started, the South Whidbey volleyball team wasn’t gracious hosts; the Falcons dominated the competition on the way to winning their annual invitational Saturday, Sept. 8.

The Falcons finished first in the eight-team tournament with a 13-1 record.

Each team faced the other seven in two sets to 25 in the round-robin tournament.

South Whidbey’s lone loss was 25-14 to Coupeville. The Falcons recovered to beat the Wolves by the same score, then zipped through the remainder of the schedule. No other team got to within seven points of South Whidbey, and the Falcons held their opponents to single digits in seven sets.

The South Whidbey junior varsity also played in the tournament, which featured only one other JV team, and posted a 7-7 record.

The Falcons (2-0) play at Chimacum (0-1) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11.
