South Whidbey excels at track and field

The boys were beaten 102-43 and the girls lost 90-60, but the real story was individual performances.

Falcon Jon Poolman led the charge with a 12-second flat finish in the 100-meter dash. He then posted winning times of 24.46 in the 200-meter and 52.10 in the 400-meter races.

Sam Lee was second for South Whidbey in the 800-meter run with 2:12.73.

For the Falcons boys throwers, Jackson Engstrom hurled his shot put 46 feet, 6.25 inches for first place. Zach Idso was first in discus with 145-04 and Danny Zuver second with 123-06.

In the long jump, Kyle Simchuk placed second with 16-7.5, then took second place in the triple jump with 36-7.5.

For the South Whidbey girls team, McKenzie Walker took third in the 100-meter dash in 13.59, but won the 200-meter in 27.87.

In the 800-meter varsity finals, Lillianna Stelling was first with 2:35.31, Nora Felt second in 2:50.93 and Kelsey Hardaway third in 2:58.04.

Falcon Laura Barrow had a fine day, taking first in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles with times of 17.14 and

48.43 respectively.

South Whidbey swept the girls shot put. Kelsey Engstrom put the shot

30 feet even, Angelina Berger finished with 27-8 for second place and Cayla Calderwood posted 27-6.5 for third.

Calderwood took the discus with a distance of 91-02.

Ellie Green high-jumped her way to first place with 4-08; Bailey Auburn was second in the long jump with 14-02 and Laurie Robinson was second in the triple jump with 30-04.5.
