South Whidbey finishes 9th at state / Boys golf

The South Whidbey High School boys golf team placed ninth at the 1A state championship tournament Tuesday and Wednesday, May 22 and 23, at the Liberty Lake Golf Course east of Spokane.

Falcons Ryan Wenzek and Gabe Jacobson-Ross finished 23rd and 31st to help South Whidbey land in the top 10.

The Falcons placed second as a team last spring, and Wenzek took 26th.

Wenzek shot an 82 Tuesday and 83 Wednesday for a two-day total of 165.

Jacobson-Ross carded rounds of 84 and 86 for a 170.

Bear Creek, led by medalist John Hayes (69, 70 – 139), won the team title with 88 points. South Whidbey tallied 27.
