South Whidbey loses to King’s but snaps Knights’ shutout streak / Volleyball

Although the South Whidbey High School volleyball team lost to visiting King’s 3-1 Wednesday, Oct. 17, the Falcons did accomplish something no other 1A school has this year — win a set against the Knights.

Defending state 1A champion and third-ranked King’s is 11-1 this season; the lone loss was 3-2 to 4A North Creek of Bothell, which has posted a 12-1 record this fall and is ranked seventh in the state 4A poll.

Other than North Creek, the Knights have defeated every opponent 3-0 until Wednesday. The Falcons broke an eight-match string of Knight shutouts.

South Whidbey (4-4, 7-6) closes out the regular season with two matches next week. Tuesday, Oct. 23, the Falcons go to Cedar Park Christian (5-3, 9-4), and on Thursday, Oct. 25, they host Granite Falls (1-7, 3-9) at 7 p.m.

A win over CPC will vault South Whidbey into third place in the North Sound Conference standings. The Falcons beat the Eagles 3-2 in a home match Oct. 2.
