Two South Whidbey High School graduates have tossed their way to the Division 1 Ultimate Frisbee College National Championship in Milwaukee this weekend.

Kiana Henny of the Whitman College Sweets and Will Simms of the University of Washington Sundodgers qualified for the tournament by placing among the leaders at the Northwest Regionals at Whitman in Walla Walla earlier this month.

Henny’s Whitman team is ranked 14th in the country and earned a trip to the national meet by defeating the University of Washington women at the regional in a match for the final national berth.

Simms and the UW men, who are ranked fourth nationally, finished second to Oregon at the regional with a 6-1 record.

Whitman opens the tournament in pool play with the University of British Columbia, Pitt, Florida and the University of North Carolina.

Washington will be joined in pool play by the University of Victoria, Brown, Pitt and Florida State.

UW’s match with Brown Friday, May 25, will be streamed live at 3 p.m. PST on www.ultiworld.com

The men’s and women’s semifinal and final matches will be broadcast on the ESPN network.
