Island County planning chief to say hello

Published 2:42 pm Tuesday, October 22, 2013

David Wechner, Island County Planning and Community Development’s new director, will be the subject of a public meet-and-greet in Freeland today.

The event is scheduled to take place during District 1 Commissioner Helen Price Johnson’s monthly “Coffee with the Commissioner” and will run from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the WiFire Coffee Bar on Main Street.

Formerly the director of the Josephine County Planning Department in southwestern Oregon, Wechner was hired earlier this year to replace outgoing planning chief Bob Pederson, who resigned in March.

Wechner was selected from a pool of candidates by a committee of county department heads and one member of the public. The commissioners unanimously offered him the position. He accepted and began work in July.
