To the editor:
I am responding to Mr. Bodine’s recent letter. He does not live in Langley, does not vote in Langley, does not attend city council meetings and does not pay Langley taxes.
I do not know what is meant by the term “Eco-village.” I assume that it must mean a community that has environmental concerns as opposed to a community that sets aside such concerns whenever investment feels constrained in any way.
In the 15-plus years I have lived in Langley, I recall eight development applications, mostly residential. All were approved, except one. One was abandoned by the developer.
I do not know of any constraint to investment that can be attributed to local government. My observation is that the Langley government consistently supports local business. Langley’s development and business regulations are not substantially different from those in Island County, Coupeville and LaConner. Or, for that matter, those of Lynnwood on the mainland.
My decades of management experience may be different from those of Mr. Bodine or Ms. Waters, but I invite them to bring their experience and skill to bear and show me proposals that help the community while being based on sound business plans and not on pie-in-the-sky real estate ventures. When they do, I will happily join them.
The attack on Langley Councilman Robert Gilman does not deserve comment. I don’t always agree with his views, but he is making positive contributions, and to my knowledge his views do not in any way oppose or constrain investment in Langley. He has always expressed support for local business development.
