Letter: Biden administration offers hope for climate

Editor,

A confluence of recent developments in government and business gives us hope for planet Earth.

John Kerry was appointed special presidential envoy for climate. Janet Yellen was named treasury secretary, and Jeff Bezos has turned his focus toward addressing climate change.

Kerry sees carbon pricing as a critical solution, saying, “With carbon pricing, those causing emissions pay for the cost of damage.

“Without carbon pricing, we all pay the cost.”

Yellen points out that a carbon tax is a “critical tool to create the right incentives for a transition” to net zero carbon emissions.

Bezos has pledged to spend $10 billion in the next decade to accelerate the transition to 100 percent clean energy and invest in a climate justice movement.

Finally, we have a real opportunity to pass the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act in Congress, which would be a huge step toward slowing climate change.
