Letter: Do not put ‘Lord your God to the test,’ Bible warns

Editor,

Recently, when greeting an acquaintance, my wife volunteered that she is vaccinated against COVID and he, a devout Christian, replied that he was trusting God to protect him.

Later, I thought of this passage from the Bible — Matthew, and also in Luke — where Jesus is tempted by Satan. The devil takes Jesus to the pinnacle of the Temple and says: “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”

Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
