Being new to Washington state, I called the Island County Elections Office in Coupeville to ask whether ballots dropped in the election drop boxes go directly to the Elections Office or if they go through the mail system.

The Elections Office told me that the drop boxes are emptied by official elections personnel and the ballots do not go through the mail.

I may be the only person on the planet who did not know this, but in case there are others like me, it may be a good idea to get the word out.
