Letter: If not for yourself, wear a mask for your loved ones

Editor,

The COVID-19 pandemic is not going anywhere. In fact, it’s making a strong comeback. People are still getting sick and dying from it every day.

Hospitals are overwhelmed and are turning away patients with other serious problems. According to statistics published by the Seattle Times, fewer than half of Island County residents are vaccinated.

We have the power to defeat this terrible enemy.

Gov. Jay Inslee was compelled to reinstate the mask mandate. There are people who believe being forced to wear a mask violates their freedom. One woman was quoted as saying school children should not wear masks because it covers up their smiles.

Dead children don’t smile.

If you don’t feel compelled to get the vaccine or wear a mask for your own sake, do it for the ones who love you. Do it for the ones you love. Please.
