Letter: Maybe solution is closing Ebey’s National Reserve

Editor,

I have read the requests to cease vital Field Carrier Landing Practice training at OLF Coupeville. All three of the letter writers have been told in many NAS Whidbey Island communications, many Whidbey News-Times articles and even in court filings why OLF Coupeville is essential, so I won’t regurgitate that info here.

Meanwhile, I have to shelter in place and not ride public transit to watch the flight operations.

Why? Because we have a pandemic that threatens mostly seniors including my two parents and transit operators. Not just those seniors who choose to live in homes of arguably inflated property value next to OLF Coupeville.

Therefore, I will also consider these letters public notice that I need to be lobbying harder to ask the federal and state governments to remove incompatible housing from historic Central Whidbey.

Maybe also we should close Ebey’s National Historic Reserve, Jan Pickard, since OLF Coupeville is going to remain and its supposedly incompatible for the reasons you stated April 15, 2020 — and in federal court with Ebey’s NHR mission?

As there currently is a case under US Code 36 CFR § 60.15, filed by me, to possibly remove the Central Whidbey Historic District from the National Historic Register, oh I’d love to hear Jan’s answer to that question … I’m sure you do too.

We have until May 28 to find out.
