Editor,
We are witnessing another gross example of government overreach in the Langley mayor’s exercising his “emergency” power in mandating that everyone wear a mask within the business district even while outdoors.
The mayor admits the number of covid 19 cases in Langley remains low. He has declared an emergency in order to keep an emergency from actually happening.
If that isn’t an overreach and abuse of his power than I don’t know what is. As there is no emergency, this action is totally unwarranted and is merely his attempt to further exert control.
The mayor states that those who don’t want to wear a mask can stay out of the town. Is that really in the best interests of the local businesses who are already reeling from the lock downs? They will have to be the judge of that.
In the meantime I’m taking the mayor’s advice and taking my business elsewhere.
