Letter: Options for ban on fireworks are needed

Editor,

I have been concerned for several years about a devastating wildfire started by fireworks on South Whidbey. If a fire started anywhere near Baby Island with a typical summer north-westerly wind, nothing would stop it from burning much of South Whidbey’s heavily forested areas.

One solution would be to ban fireworks on the South End, or Island County Commissioner Melanie Bacon’s district. Another possible compromise would be to make an exception for the west and southerly facing beaches from Lagoon Point to Clinton. I know this doesn’t address all the issues, but is just offered as another input to hopefully prevent a catastrophic fire.
