Letter: Orwell’s ‘1984’ as a blueprint to take control of country

Editor,

When I was a young man I read George Orwell’s “1984.” I read it as a cautionary tale, but I didn’t realize others might use it as a blueprint to take control of this country.

It seems that I was in error. Democratic leaders and many Republican swamp creatures are using the “big lie” and policing speech to suppress half of the population.

Those who control our forms of mass communication seem happy to comply, or are actually pulling the strings. Either way, it is an unholy alliance.

Any idea or challenge to the orthodoxy of the left is suppressed. We even are seeing the discussion of creating a “truth czar” to silence any unwanted idea that is not the approved “truth.”

I hope that even the most ardent leftists see the folly of this trend and make it known that the best way to fight for your ideas is not to demonize and suppress your opponents but to make the case that your ideas are better.

At least read the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
