Letter: Politicians should listen to voters, not NRA

Editor,

One hundred and nine people die everyday from guns, as of 2018, does that upset anyone? It should, there is no need for statistics like this to haunt us.

We have ways to stop much of this killing. Why do we keep voting in Republicans who do not listen to their constituents and who are so afraid of the gun lobby they won’t act? The House has listened and crafted laws that sit in the Senate, for years because the Republican Senate won’t even bring them up for a vote.

\The NRA will have their convention in Texas soon, why do you think they do not allow the guns they worship in? Maybe they’re afraid of being shot? How ironic, that they are careful for their safety but do not care for the rest of the country, for the children, for the elderly. The hypocrisy is deafening.

We vote these politicians in and we can vote them out. If they don’t listen to 90% of the people, that want common sense gun laws, they should go. Why are they even there if they don’t listen to their constituents: power, money (from the NRA to fund their elections), not good enough. They are in Congress to represent us, not for their own private interests. It is time we the people demand our representatives listen to those that voted them in. We must pay attention and vote these hypocrites out if they don’t.

We cannot continue to live with this carnage. Simple things like background checks, red flags, closing loop-holes, does nothing to prevent people from owning guns, for hunting. Can we agree no one needs assault rifles for hunting? Only the military should have these, they are meant for killing.

The children in Uvalde, Texas could not even be identified because the shooter’s gun caused so much damage to those little bodies. How terrible is this? For those folks who insist that teachers should be armed, well there were armed officers at the Robb Elementary School and they could not subdue the shooter, it took a SWAT team to stop him. Enough said.
