Letter: Price Johnson the kind of leader needed in Olympia

Editor,

The first time I saw Helen Price Johnson was at a League of Women Voters salad supper. The evening featured not only salad, but also the Island County commissioners. Each commissioner gave a presentation to League members about issues, concerns and victories she/he felt were appropriate at the time.

I remember being struck by Helen’s sensibility and leadership style. Her command of topics and the way she demonstrated that although many issues were tough and critical to our way of life, working together was, and still is, essential to getting things done for the residents, the environment and the economy.

Many years have passed and while many other Island County commissioners have come and gone, Helen never misses that salad supper. When a new commissioner joins the team, they always acknowledge how much Helen has assisted them in getting up to speed on the issues and getting settled into the job.

That’s the kind of leader she is. Smart, intuitive, respectful and just as important — kind and caring about the people she serves.

It feels like now, more than any time in my life’s history, we need a steady hand on the rudder. We need someone who can navigate these tumultuous waters and look out for our interests in Olympia.

I believe with all my heart that person is Helen Price Johnson.

Please join me in supporting Helen for Washington state senator for District 10.
