Letter: Public entity should take over Oak Harbor airport

Editor,

I read with interest the article in the Whidbey News-Times on Oct. 6. Having a public entity owning the Oak Harbor Airport could really enhance the value of this airport to people living in North Whidbey. It would be very useful for some passenger service, emergency services, recreational and business usage.

Additionally, the airport could provide a few more jobs in our community. In the event of a transportation disaster in getting on and off of the island, the airport could be a vital link to the mainland. The airport does need improvements and public entity is well positioned to be able to provide the improvements needed. As a pilot for many years, I am in favor of shifting the ownership of the airport to an entity such as the Port of Coupeville.
