To the editor:
Show some leadership, Sheriff Brown.
The idea that the sheriff’s department should be the last to sustain budget cuts is a good one, but Sheriff Mark Brown has taken it too far in these times of radically reduced revenues.
All other departments have come forward with good faith efforts to find ways to reduce their budgets, and the commissioners have even taken sizable salary cuts. Sheriff Brown is holding out, claiming there’s no way he can find even the 5 percent he’s being asked to reduce.
Get real, Brownie, and stop trying to make us believe that we won’t be safe in our homes if you reduce your budget by 5 percent, far less than others.
