Letter: Whidbey doesn’t new connection to mainland

Editor,

About every dozen years someone “floats” the idea of a tunnel or a bridge to make commutes between Whidbey Island and the mainland easier, as was reported again in March 3 edition. The primary goal seems to be to more rapidly turn our island into a Mercer Island lookalike.

Of course it takes commitment to live on Whidbey and commute to a job. I wouldn’t do it, but that’s the point. Why do people do it? Because they want to live in Whidbey communities, rich with peace, animals, trees, privacy and room.

This is the place that super-glued the lock on the Clinton Dairy Queen on its opening day.

It’s time to stop thinking development will make the island better.
