Letter: Whidbey riders need predictable ferry service

Editor,

Those of us living on South Whidbey need consistency and predictability from our ferry service. As of now, we have full service, meaning two boats, three or four days a week but no way to predict which days it will happen. The state notifies us of a day’s service level at 9:15 p.m. on the previous day. This does not give us any time to plan our lives. We can not plan working from home days, doctor appointments etc. with that schedule.

The ferry service needs to define the days we will have adequate service on an ongoing basis.

If we could get a commitment that they would do their best to serve us properly on, for instance, Monday, Tuesday and Saturday, we could plan our lives around those days. While we need to get back to full service every day, we at least need predictability while waiting for that service.
