I want to commend the city on the beautifully remodeled City Beach Park. As I am the team leader of the Whidbey Island Quad Line Kite Flying team, Team Soleil (Team Sunshine), we visit and use City Beach year around.

It is a perfect kite-flying field, especially since the winds are dominantly coming right off the water.

During this horrible pandemic, we have brought so much joy to those who visit the park. Many have never seen a professional Quad Line Kite Flying Team, let alone watch a team fly in perfect choreographed precision to music.

Not a day has gone by that someone hasn’t stopped to watch, applaud, or ask us about our kites and our flying passion.

I read in the Whidbey News-Times that City Beach may erect a 37-foot-tall sculpture near the basketball courts. Very happy to see this is going to happen, just checking to see where they are going to place such a piece of art.

We don’t want to lose our beautiful kite-flying field. As I lobbied for open spaces when the park design was initially drawn up, I would hate to see our flying field as the location you have selected. If you could place a marker where you might erect a statue, that would greatly assist us.

Also, letting the citizens of our fine city know in advance where you intend to place it would be very helpful since it is we, the residents of beautiful Oak Harbor, who use this park often.
