LETTERS TO THE EDITOR | Emerson’s ‘antics’ not useful

I just read the Record’s article concerning county commissioner Kelly Emerson’s latest antics aimed at reviewing “our sunshine laws.” I am struck by the dogged persistence with which Emerson demonstrates childish, disruptive and utterly wasteful tactics that purposefully bogs down county government.

To the editor:

I just read the Record’s article concerning county commissioner Kelly Emerson’s latest antics aimed at reviewing “our sunshine laws.” I am struck by the dogged persistence with which Emerson demonstrates childish, disruptive and utterly wasteful tactics that purposefully bogs down county government.

Now I know that there are some folks out there who think this is not necessarily a bad thing. I’m pretty sure they would prefer a government (at any level) that is incapable of functioning. Or perhaps even better, no government at all. This philosophy appeals to those who are still living in the everyman-for-himself Wild West, that factually only exists in their minds. Maybe it’s something they put in their tea, if you know what I mean.

Emerson epitomizes this kind of thinking. But really, rather than coming up with whatever idea that bubbles up in your head to make your fellow commissioners look bad (no matter how groundless), wouldn’t it be more constructive to work with them and perhaps get something worthwhile accomplished, Kelly? And really, if you can’t do that, then why don’t you just resign? Please. You simply disgust most of us.
