To the editor:

One cannot help just watching in amazement at all the runners in this latest race to be an Island County Commissioner. Only two of them, Angie Homola and Helen Price Johnson, really know what it means to be a commissioner. They have been working in that extraordinarily tough environment for the last several years.

Both of these ladies have not had enough and have thrown their bonnets in the ring again. Good for them! What remains to be seen is whether they will rise to the top again by getting enough votes to compete in the general election.

But who will they compete against if they do get those votes? There is only one candidate that really has a clue as to what he would be getting into and that is Curt Gordon, who is running in District 1. He has been involved for decades in managing local government in partnership with Island County government as a parks commissioner and as a port commissioner, both elected positions. What is really great about Curt is he is not tied to all the B.S. that our main political parties seem to be wrapped up in. He measures success of government by how it helps the average person and how decisions that are made impact our economic and social well-being on this island. Voting for him in the primary would make for a good race with Helen. Most importantly, it would be a race that no matter who won, we the citizens would be “safe” in having chosen someone right for the job.
