This letter concerns Island County’s senior citizens and the senior services centers.

Now that the elections have come and gone maybe my letter will stand a chance of being published since there are no more pros and cons about candidates.

I’ve noticed that for the last two years the pastor of the Assembly of God Church seeks donations so that he can put on a 15-minute fireworks display at Freeland Park. Somehow he manages to get the money. Since the election has just ended and people nationwide has given billions of dollars to finance campaigns for politicians I would hope that they would think about this for a moment.

In the fall issue of The Senior Services Guide, page 17, column one, is the Senior Services wish list. These consist of the need for dishes, a food processor, dishwasher, steam table, etc. Since I feel that local people gave probably thousands of dollars toward the election so why not send some money to the Senior Center? I challenge all local clergy, politicians and Island County residents to do just that. How about the politicians sending what is left in their campaign chest? Since this is “the time of giving and sharing” for those who claim to be Christian and observe Dec. 25 as “Christ’s birth,” how about putting your faith and beliefs to work. As stated in the Bible, James 2:26, “Faith without works is dead.”

By the way, I’ll be sending a check too. Contact Senior Services of Island County, 14594 SR 525, Langley, WA 98260. Call 321-1600.
