To the editor:
With our recent weather, there seemed to be some doubt that we really cleaned Langley’s flower beds and planters, mulched them and planted 400 primroses on Saturday, Feb. 19, but now that the snow has melted, the blooms have emerged almost as lovely as ever.
We could not have gotten so much accomplished in one day without financial contributions from the Langley Chamber of Commerce, the Langley Community Club and a very generous community that enabled us to purchase even more plants and materials than we had originally hoped for. Thank you all for your financial generosity.
The almost 40 volunteers who showed up on a very brisk but sunny morning made quick work of an enormous job. Everyone just gathered themselves into teams and got the job done. Thank you all for your generosity of spirit and labor.
Mike’s Place had hot chocolate and a counter overflowing with baked goods and treats that were donated by the community when the volunteers were ready for an energy boost. Thank you, everyone who baked for us, for generously sharing your talents.
The South Whidbey Record, drewslist, I Love Langley, the city of Langley and many organizations helped us get the word out. Thank you all for your assistance in reaching out to our community.
Mystery Weekend visitors may not have appreciated our efforts buried under snow, but all of us can share in the glimpse of spring that now lines our streets. It is just another reminder of the pride, the community spirit and the can-do attitude that makes Langley the most marvelous place to live. And we all had fun.
Thank you to everyone who gave this project so much support. And get ready to do it again in May.
