I paid my property taxes in April 2012 for the full year by check. It’s a checking account I rarely use and don’t monitor whether the checks clear because I have a carbon copy. I recently received a reassessment notice for 2011 taxes which prompted me to call the assessor’s office.
A lot of people blame the U.S. Supreme Court for damaging our democratic election process by giving corporations more influence, but this is true only to a degree.
When I hear the word “community,” I think of Helen Price Johnson.
One cannot help just watching in amazement at all the runners in this latest race to be an Island County Commissioner.

We retired to Whidbey Island nine years ago. All along our retirement goals were to support and mentor the next generation of youth in our community. We are proud to have the opportunity to serve and support young people in our schools, as well as several local non-profits on South Whidbey. This is our passion and among the most important of our life goals. In these tough economic times, we have purposely redirected all of our energy and donations to local, nonprofit organizations serving youth.
