To the editor:
Thank you for the article on fireworks (“Fireworks Phobia,” June 26), and for recognizing that community appreciation of this seasonal din is far from unanimous.
One might ask: If fireworks are a means of celebrating the Fourth of July, why are they allowed to be detonated as early as June 28 and as late as July 5?
A cynic might answer that such largesse has little to do with patriotic fervor and a lot to do with what many Americans consider their God-given right to blow stuff up.
The Sound of Freedom? I, for one, would appreciate some freedom from all the noise.
