Much thanks to Island County Sheriff Rick Felici’s op-ed, “Be strong, be resilient and listen to each another,” published in the June 6 Whidbey News-Times.

I deeply appreciate his initiative of providing the community reassurance about his commitment to principled and caring law enforcement in Island County at this troubled time. His message closely mirrors the spirit of the Civility First campaign that also emphasizes listening to one another and “cutting each other a little slack” even as we hold and express our differing opinions.

Ultimately good law enforcement is the result of cooperation and respect between law enforcement leadership and the community they are pledged to serve and protect.
