Students can learn from recent South Whidbey Record article

Editor,

I’m writing in response to the South Whidbey Record article Saturday about the veteran and former marine Joe Simon. I hope the high school students read that article, especially the part in which he says “We were totally lied to.”

When the recruiters come around, students can check the War Resisters League at www.warresisters.org for info like: Know Before You Go ‘Cause There’s No Reset Button.

My brother was about to be drafted for the Vietnam War. He was in ROTC at the U of W where he thought it was a lot of marching around following orders for no reason. He chose to move to Canada and was always glad he did.

I was in the Student Peace Union, and still support various peace organizations, including Women in Black against war and militarism. I’m hoping Joe Simon is a Veteran for Peace.
