“Feathered Architects: the Fascinating World of Bird Nests,” with Idi Ulsh, will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 23.

This class is open to the public and held in Trinity Lutheran Church’s annex building, 18341 Highway 525 in Freeland.

From eagles to hummingbirds, Ulsh will explore how and where birds make nests and relate interesting facts about their construction.

This fun, informative and informal morning workshop will place special emphasis on birds of Whidbey Island though other species will be covered to represent bird families.

Participants will come away with a deeper respect for the innate abilities of these talented creatures.

Ulsh photographed the nests of more than 30 bird species and did an extensive five-year study of northwest bird nesting practices.

She is well known for her bird and butterfly programs. She is a past president of Seattle Audubon, founder of the Washington Butterfly Association, Seattle Audubon Master Birder, freelance nature photographer and an independent college counselor.

This class is the third of Whidbey Audubon Society’s intermediate bird class series. The cost is $15 per person and is open anyone, regardless of experience.

Class size is limited to 35 people.
